Great day in Luxor... boat ride over in the darkness, scramble up rocky Nile bank. Being nearly the first to enter Karnak Sanctuary this morning, as the sun barely rose... entered the Open Air Museum where there are phenomenal small temples reconstructed out of the trash of ages left when you worship different forms of the same god at the same site for twenty or thirty rulers in a row, all wanting to leave a fresh mark and obliterate what's been nearly forgotten.
So some really great quality stuff was ours to admire in the early dawn light, perfect for seeing the tiny traceries on these walls, especially the temple of Senoseros
But the day was also full of Egyptian horse cabbies' tricks... kind of fun yet embarrassing.... to get his full money our buddy Hassan, who'd driven us from Karnak to Luxor Museum to Sofra Restaurant, on the way back to the ferry, hijacked/commandeered us, taking his not so tiny buggy right down a crowded pedestrian market street.... i of course was aghast... Craig of course was laughing. It really was great in the end... -a memory to laugh about and with
